What Does 'Sinawali' Mean?

The name Sinawali comes from the Tagalog word "Sawali," a woven split bamboo mat used as walls of nipa huts, which literally means "weaving." The crisscrossing movements of Sinawali movements in Kali resemble the pattern of these mats, hence the term. When used in relation to various movements in all Filipino Martial Arts, Sinawali' basically means weave, or weave pattern.

Get as excited as this when you start to master some of the most well known Kali Sinawali drills in the world!
