Martial arts are at the forefront of complex movement & associated therapies, with research investigating them for mental health, academic achievement, & rehabilitation outcomes. This program applies concepts from neuroplasticity research & embodied cognition specifically to martial arts training. We will facilitate active practice of martial techniques & discuss assessment tools to evaluate each person's needs & progress.

  • Suggest & discuss specific martial arts exercises which are easy to progress & regress to manipulate cognitive load.

NeuroCognition Advisor Adam Taggart

Adam is a Senior Research Specialist for the University of Michigan, primarily working for the Gateway to Global aging project. He completed his PhD in Kinesiology, focusing on the neuro-cognitive effects of exercise, specifically martial arts, in June of 2023. Originally training in Kung Fu & Kickboxing from a young age, Adam met founder Paul McCarthy during his first visit to the Inosanto Academy in 2012, where he also discovered a passion for Kali & Jeet Kune Do.
